The report highlights a stark contrast between the rise in adult conversions and the decline in infant baptisms, which have plummeted from 42,411 in 2000 to 6,110 in 2024, a 7% drop from 2023 to 2024. Despite this, the total number of admissions to the Church increased by almost 40% during the same period. Joris Kregting, a sociologist, attributes this to recent media reports on the subject. However, the overall number of Catholics in the Netherlands has decreased from 5.1 million in 2000 to 3.4 million in 2024, a 34% drop. This is despite a 5.5% increase in church weddings and a 7% drop in funerals. The low attendance at weekly Masses, currently at 2.7% of the Catholic population, remains a concern. The figures underscore the Netherlands' low weekly Mass attendance among Catholic countries, a trend that extends to other sacraments, with a 7% drop in first Communion and a 5% fall in confirmation.
