Hold onto your hats, gamers! Rockstar Games has just unveiled its official marketplace for mods, the Cfx Marketplace, and it's a game-changer. This new platform allows players and server owners to buy mods, with prices ranging from free to several hundred dollars for bundles.
But let's rewind a bit. Rockstar's journey with mods hasn't always been smooth sailing. Back in 2023, Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, popular multiplayer roleplay servers for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. FiveM launched in 2015, and RedM followed in 2019.
However, it wasn't always a love story. In 2015, Rockstar and its partner, Take-Two, initially viewed FiveM as a threat, even leading to the ban of its creators due to concerns about piracy.
Fast forward to November 2022, and the plot thickens! Rockstar softened its stance, allowing roleplay servers like FiveM and RedM, provided they were non-commercial, respected intellectual property, and didn't interfere with official online services. This shift paved the way for the Cfx Marketplace.
This curated digital storefront is designed to give mod creators a space to share and sell their creations, including props, scripts, and maps.
For the launch, Rockstar partnered with a select group of creators, ensuring a quality experience. The project will roll out gradually to provide the best experience for both creators and server owners.
